THE GROSSE POINTES

Grosse Pointe is a friendly prosperous residential community located on the shores of Lake St. Clair. It is composed of 5 separate municipalities;

  • The Park
  • The City
  • The Farms
  • The Shores
  • and The Woods.

The Pointes have a population close to 50,000 people; many college-educated professionals and business executives. There are over 16,000 single family owner-occupied homes in the Grosse Pointes.

In 2006 there were approximately 460 sales of single family homes in the Grosse Pointes, and the average price of the homes was close to $362,000. There were 18 transactions above $1,000,000; the highest sale topping $3,000,000.

Grosse Pointe Park has 2 waterfront parks, including boat docks, swimming pools, and a new recreation building with a movie theatre, and the City has a new branch library. There were 98 single family residences sold in 2006, and the average price for the homes was close to $380,000.

The City of Grosse Pointe has its own Lakeside Park, Bon Secours Hospital, and wonderful shopping on Kercheval Avenue in The Village. There were 43 sales in the City in 2006, including several waterfront properties. The average price was over $550,000.

Grosse Pointe Farms has its waterfront park with excellent boating facilities, beach, and its new community center. Grosse Pointe South High School is in the Farms. There is great shopping on the Hill, and the Central Library and Cottage Hospital are located nearby. The Country Club of Detroit (golf, swimming and tennis) and the Grosse Pointe Club (boating, swimming and tennis) are both located in the Farms, as is the Grosse Pointe War Memorial community center. 115 homes sold in 2006, averaging over $440,000. Ten sales were above $1,000,000.

Grosse Pointe Shores has its waterfront park adjacent to the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club.

There were 29 single family residences sold in the Shores in 2006. The average price was $560,000.

Grosse Pointe Woods is home to the Lochmoor Club (golf, swimming, tennis) and the Grosse Pointe Hunt Club. The Woods has a 55 acre waterfront park with the second largest swimming complex in the mid-west. Grosse Pointe North is located in the Woods, as well as a new branch library. There are wonderful restaurants and shopping opportunities on Mack Avenue. 174 homes sold in the Woods in 2006, averaging $215,000.
